Welch and Rushe believes that providing a safe and healthy work environment for all employees is essential. We strive for the highest standards in all aspects of our operations. Safety does not happen by chance, but as a result of commitment and teamwork by all employees.
Welch and Rushe has developed a safety program that meets or exceeds federal, state, and local regulations with emphasis on the OSHA Act of 1970 and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers EM-385. It is our obligation to ensure that all personnel are trained in these standards in order to safely perform their duties. The safety of the general public, our clients, personnel, and other contractors is the responsibility and number one priority of Welch and Rushe.
New personnel are trained through an extensive program sanctioned by the Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA), some topics include:
Safe tool use
Training is provided by our full-time in-house Safety Manager, an Authorized OSHA Outreach instructor, who is also a Certified First Aid/CPR/AED instructor and Certified Forklift and Aerial Lift instructor. Supplemental to the yearly training regiment, weekly jobsite and monthly safety meetings are conducted as a means to keep all employees educated on new or updated standards and practices.
Our Safety Committee is essential in keeping the line of communication open between all levels of personnel. They meet monthly to discuss current and future projects, policy or regulation changes and training needs. Additionally, all employees are encouraged to provide input on how to improve company policies, training, personal protective equipment and methods of creating a safer and healthier work environment.
Welch and Rushe’s incident rate is consistently below the industry average according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. We pride ourselves on maintaining a consistently low Experience Modification Rate. This stellar rate and associated high level of safety performance has allowed us to continually secure and complete a high percentage of our projects with the Federal Government. Welch and Rushe has been honored with safety awards from the Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA) and Injured Workers Insurance Fund (IWIF) for our continued exceptional safety rating.
